1817 - His inauguration as 5th President of the United States

1817 - This period encompassed the Era of Good Feelings (1815-1824) during which there was no hard political fighting

1817 - The economic plan advocated by Henry Clay, called the American System, was established

1817 - The Rush-Bagot Treaty of 1817 demilitarized the Great Lakes regions

1817 - The First Seminole War (1817–1818) erupted in Florida as the Seminole Native Indian tribe defended their lands with runaway slaves who had joined them

1818 - Congress deemed the number of stripes on the U.S. flag to total 13 in honor of the 13 original colonies
