concert singer. On May 7, 1915 the Lusitania, a cruise ship, which had many American passengers aboard, was sunk by a German U-Boat. The USA declared war on Germany on April 6, 1917. Margaret toured the US to raise funds for the Red Cross. Margaret Woodrow Wilson also demonstrated her courage and determination by singing for the troops in war-torn France. Margaret never married and she retired from singing in 1923 to work at an advertising agency. In later years, she turned to Indian mysticism.

Margaret Woodrow Wilson was introduced to eastern mysticism by followers of Sri Ramakrishna. Sri Ramakrishna was a great spiritual personality and a important influence in introducing the teachings of yoga in America. He founded the Ramakrishna- Vivekananda Center of New York in 1933. The Center bases its teachings on the System of Vedanta, which combines both the religion and philosophy of the Hindus that teaches that every soul is potentially divine and that its divinity may be manifested through worship contemplation and unselfish work. In 1938 Margaret Woodrow Wilson travelled to India to the ashram of Sri Aurobindo in Pondicherry. She became known in the Sri Aurobindo Ashram as 'Nistha', the Sanskrit word meaning "sincerity." Margaret Woodrow Wilson and scholar Joseph Campbell produced the English translation of the work of the Hindu mystic, Sri Ramakrishna "The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna by Swami Nikhilananda". The book was published in 1942, by Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Center, New York. In early 1944 Margaret Woodrow Wilson contracted uremia, a toxic condition resulting from kidney disease. Her friends and family pleaded with Margaret to return to America to consult doctors but she refused and is quoted as saying "They can take care of my body, but who will take care of my soul?" Margaret Woodrow Wilson died on February 12 1944 and is buried in the cemetery of Pondicherry.
