Her father was a blue-collar worker who was employed as a pump operator for the Chicago Water Department. Michelle was encourage to work hard and she was well educated at Princeton University studying sociology and African-American studies after which she attended Harvard Law School. She met Barack Obama in 1988 whilst she was employed by the Chicago law firm Sidley & Austin. The couple became engaged in 1991 and were married on 3 October, 1992 at Trinity United Church of Christ, Chicago, Illinois. Michelle was 28 years old and Barack Obama was 31 years old. Barack and Michelle Obama had two children, their daughter's names are Malia Ann (1998 – present), Natasha "Sasha" (2001 – present). Michelle Obama was initially wary of her husband's political ambitions but soon she diligently campaigned on his behalf and supported him in his career which led them both to the White House.
